Home Office Pros and Cons
I do like my home office. It has many great amenities: good
lighting, warm and cozy, great décor (lol), and close to the fridge. Bill brings
me my coffee refills in the morning and makes me a hot cup of tea every afternoon.
It is a sweet setup. But there are so many things that I miss from my regular
office.
My biggest pet peeve is my desk chair. While it’s a decent chair with wheels and good back support, the arms do not fit under my desk. The opening of the desk where my legs go through is just not wide enough to accommodate the chair. Sometimes I just want to get in really close and tight to the desk but those arms prevent me from making it happen. It annoys me. Every. Damn. Day. Since March 2020. I suspect this set-up is contributing to the pain in my shoulders.
But, hope was reborn today. I was able to visit our new office space in Amherst. The company I work for is moving into new digs and it has been designed to be super cool, clean, and ergonomic. Of course, the first thing I did was check out the desk and chair set up. Woot! Arms go under the table. I was so excited that I video chatted two coworkers to show them, too. I pushed the chair back and forth under the desk to show them how wonderfully it fit. They both cheered. Apparently, I’m not the only one who suffers with this irritant at home.
So, here’s to a return to work normalcy sometime in our
future. I love working at home, but I’m anxious to get back to see my coworkers
and into a spiffy new office. Where the chairs work.
